CLEMSON, S.C. -

Late in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s match up of the Clemson Tigers and the North Carolina State Wolfpack, Tiger left tackle Isaiah Battle punched Wolfpack defensive back Jarvis Byrd.

7 On Your Side was there when officials ejected Battle from the game and Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney told reporters in a post-game press conference that the hit didn't represent what the Clemson Tigers were all about as a team.

“That is not Clemson football. That is not who we are. I am very disappointed in what Isaiah did and I addressed it with him immediately on the sidelines.” Athletic Department Officials quoted from Swinney.

Social media expert Joseph Mazer at Clemson University said the hit sent social media into frenzy. Many students were tweeting and sent Facebook messages about how they were shocked at the hit and wanted to see Battle disciplined.

Atlantic Coast Conference Standard football rules said Battle will be suspended for one game and he was also ejected by referees at the game.

Clemson Athletic Department officials said they’re don’t know if further consequences will follow.

Mazer said lots of topics get the web buzzing about Clemson and the Tigers. He said he and a team of students and faculty monitor more than 150 million sources of conversations a day and the Tigers receive more than 5000 tweets daily.

Mazer also showed 7 On Your Side how athletics and academics within the school match up online.
On the heat map that you can see in the social media classroom in Daniel Hall, you can see the locations of each mention on social media worldwide.

Mazer showed us how a large number of mentions regarding athletics also shows more mentions regarding academics as well. The two tend to spike at the same time.
